CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING LYLE W. NORTON
WHEREAS, Lyle W. Norton commenced working for the City of South San
Francisco in 1973 and after fourteen years has decided to move on to new
challengesi and
WHEREA~, Lyle served as a Recreation Supervisor from March 1973 until
April 1977~ when he became Director of Parks and Recreation and continued
in that capacity until 1984 when, through City reorganization, he became
the DirectOr of Recreation and Community Services; and
WHEREAS, he is a graduate of San Jose State University, having attained
a Bacheloriof Science degree in 1970 and having pursued graduate work during
1970 through 1972; and
WHEREAS, Lyle has been active in the California Parks and Recreation
Society (C.P.R.S.) from 1971 through the present and during that time has
served the Society in a variety of professional capacities, including member-
ships on the Board of Directors and Chairmanship of various committees and
sections and since 1977 has been a member of the National Recreation and Parks
Association; and
WHEREAS, during his professional career Lyle has received the C.P.R.S.
President's Award for the Recreation Supervisor Section and the President's
Achievemenc Award from the North San Mateo County Center for the Arts; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his C.P.R.S. activities, Lyle has made contribu-
tions to the recreation field generally by serving as Vice-President of the
San Mateo Arts Council and Chair of the Cultural Action Plan Committee for
the North San Mateo County Center for the Arts; and
WHEREAs, during his tenure many significant programs and activities have
been developed and implemented in South San Francisco, among the most notable
the implementation of the Historic Preservation Committee and program, the
creation o~ Magnolia Senior Center, and the development of the Westborough
RecreationlBuilding;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of South San Francisco wishes
to acknowledge the contributions of Lyle W. Norton to the City of South San
Francisco and wish him good luck in his future endeavors.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and
adopted b~ the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular
meeting held on the 13th day of January
