HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 31-1988 RESOLUTION NO. 31-88 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE LOCATION OF A JAIL AT THE ~ORTH COUNTY CORRECTIONAL CENTER AND SUGGESTING ~URTHER EXPLORATION OF OTHER ALTERNATIVES WHEREAS, Hughes, Heiss and Associates has conducted a Jail Needs Assessment and Master Siting Plan study for the County of San Mateo which contains a recommendation that a one hundred plus (100+) bed jail be constructed adjacent to the North County Correctional Center; and WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco was not made aware that such a study was being undertaken nor invited to participate in the study; and WHEREAS, the proposed location is in a residential area near numerous s~ngle-family homes, schools and churches, and the site in question is denominated high density residential in the City's General Plan and Zoning Ordinance; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that it hereby goes on record as opposing the location o~ such a jail facility at the North County Correctional Center and that ii; suggests the Board of Supervisors for the County of San Mateo explore other alternatives, including but not limited to: Cost sharing at the location of the nearby San Francisco County Jail. B. Expanded use of the existing facility at La Honda. Consideration of County-owned land near the County's operations on Tower Road. D oi Possible land exchanges between the County and the City. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council requests the Board of Supervisors to hold some evening meetings in South San Francisco to facilitate citizen involvement in the discussion of this important and sensitive subject. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 16th day of March , 19 88 by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Mark N.
