HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 42-1987 RESOLUTION NO. 42-87 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING SENATE BILL 666 CONCERNING COMMUTER RAIL SERVICE WHEREAS, the State of California's operating contract with the Southern Pacific Company for the operation of the CalTrain commuter service expires on June 30, 1990; and WHEREAS, the CalTrain commuter service is depended upon by some 17,000 Bay Area residents, including many people who live and work in South San Francisco, !to get to work, school and other important destinations; and WHEREASi, the City and County of San Francisco, the San Mateo County Transit Disitrict, and the Santa Clara County Transit District are forming a Joint Exercise of Powers Agreement to provide for the ownership and opera- tion of peninsula commuter service; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of South San Francisco believes that maintenance of the commuter rail service is critical to dealing with the transportation issues facing the San Francisco Peninsula and that the State of California bears some responsibility for dealing with regional traffic issues; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that it supports the adoption of Senate Bill 666 which would require the ~State of California to become a signatory to the Joint Exercise of Powers A~reement to provide for the ongoing ownership and operation of commuter rail service on the Peninsula. I herebylcertify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 8th the following vote: AYES: NOES: ABSENT: day of April , 1987 , by ¢ouncilmembers John "Jack" Drago, Richard A.
