HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 101-1987 RESOLUTION NO. 101-87 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION COMMENDING JOHN PETROFF WHEREAS, JOHN PETROFF, after faithfully serving the City for approximately thirty (30) years, retired on July 10, 1987; and WHEREAS, John was employed by the City on October 1, 1957 as a Fire Fighter; and WHEREAS, during his career he successfully completed courses for the State Fire Marshal Arson Unit, an 8 hour course in Arson Detection and 96 hours for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT); and WHEREAS, John also attended the College of San Mateo for courses in Fire Science, Hazardous Materials I & II and Fire Fighting Tactics; and WHEREAS, on February 1, 1971 John was promoted to Fire Captain and on numer- ous occasions performed as Acting Battalion Chief; and WHEREAS, John initiated the program for servicing fire hydrants throughout the City, in order to keep them in top condition, and was instrumental in helping assemble the Air Compressor System which consists of filling and maintaining the bottles used for resusciation purposes; and WHEREAS, in the early 1970's John Petroff, without the use of his safety mask, performed the heroic duty of rescuing two children hiding in the closet of their burning home; and WHEREAS, John has always been a conscientious worker taking care of the so often forgotten duties in the fire station; and WHEREAS, John will be greatly missed by all of his friends in the City of South San Francisco; and WHEREAS, may John's dream of health and happiness be fulfilled, enjoying his personal interests of gardening, fishing and bicycling; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to express appreciation to John Petroff for his contributions to the Fire Department and to the City of South San Francisco in general. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that it does hereby express appreciation to John Petroff for his dedicated services to the City of South San Francisco and does order this Resolution incorporated in the official records of the City as this Council's expression of appreciation and its wishes for his long and happy retirement. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 12th day of August , 198 7 , by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers John "Jack" Drago, Richard A.
