CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION TO ESTABLISH A CULTURAL
EVENTS COMMITTEE AND TRUST FUND
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco recognizes that participation in
and exposure to cultural events, particularly the performing arts, improves
the quality of life for its citizens; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to improve the quality and to expand the number
of cultural events available in the community; and
WHEREAS, the City wishes to attract to South San Francisco unique and
distinctive performances and cultural events which otherwise might not be
presented in the City; and
WHEREAS, the City perceives a need to promote participation in cultural
events for the benefit of its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, the City seeks to facilitate attendance at such events by en-
couraging such events to be held within the City; and
WHEREAS, the City is potentially the recipient of monetary gifts for the
cultural enhancement of the community and is interested in establishing a
trust fund for such gifts; and
WHEREAS, the City has received five thousand dollars ($5,000) from Homart
Development Co. to form the basis of a fund to assist in the staging and
promotion of events designed to elevate cultural awareness;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council that:
1. The City hereby establishes a committee to be known as the South
San Francisco Cultural Events Committee to be an advisory committee
to the City Council. The committee is to be comprised of at least
five members:
a) Two members of the City Council'
b) One or more members of the general public appointed by the
City Council.
c) Two or more members of the corporate/business community
appointed by the City Council.
2. The Committee is to meet at least semi-annually to respond to
requests from Council, including but not limited to reviewing
proposals for events and recommending events, promotional
approaches and funding sources. Pursuant to Council direction,
and subject to Council approval, the Committee shall establish
criteria for the evaluation, promotion, and funding of proposed
cultural events.
3. The Finance Director shall set up a fund entitled the Cultural
Events Trust Fund for the deposit of all gifts received and
earmarked for the purpose of promoting cultural events and shall
keep track of the principal and interest of such fund.
4. Any events funded by the trust fund shall be held within South San
Francisco.
5. For the period commencing with the adoption of this resolution,
through December 31, 1988, the City will match any fund donations
received in order to attract donations and to establish a principal
amount to generate sufficient interest to cover the costs of cultural
events.
6. All amounts expended from the trust fund must be authorized by Council.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and
adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular
