HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 27-1986 RESOLUTION NO. 27-86 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION PLAN BY REVISING THE JOB SPECIFICATION FOR THE POSITION OF LIBRARY ASSISTANT I BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the Employee Classification Plan, as amended, is further amended as follows: 1. To revise the Job Specification for the position of Library Assistant I to read as set forth in Exhibit "A" attached hereto and by this reference incorporated herein as though set forth verbatim. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 12th day of February , 1986 , by the following vote: AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Councilmembers Mark N. Haffey; and Roberta Cerri Teglia None Councilmember Gus Nicolopulos EXHIBIT A TO RESOLUTION NO. 27-86 Library DEFINITION= Performs a variety oF technical and clerical duties, Including duties related to data processing entry and retrieval, which may relate to such activities as acquisitions, cataloging, classification, clrculatlon, assisting patrons, overseeing the work oF part time personnel; and does related work as required. The supervision exercised over positions In the class wtll range From close to general, depending upon the assignment. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS= Positions tn this class perform routine technical and clerical library duties according to established procedures under structured conditions with assistance available for solution of problems. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Charges and discharges library materials; registers patrons; assists patrons In becoming familtar with the general arrangement and location of materials tn the library; explains library services, rules and procedures to patrons; uses computerized circulation system to place holds, track overdues and bi]ls, answer patron queries, and perform other circulation and reference desk duties; checks tn magazines and claims missing issues; arranges for exhibits, displays and programs; represents ltbrary on system and City committees and task forces; assists library patrons In the use of tibrary materials; locates bcx~ks, periodicals, pamphlets, documents and other library materials using indexes, catalog guides and other btlbtographtc sources; assists in answering reference desk questions; prepares orders and checks in received library materials; oversees processing and mending of ltbrary materials; files catalog cards Into publlc catalog and shelf Itst; carries out maintenance activities on card catalog and shelf ltst; and schedules and oversees the work of llbrary pages and part time employees. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS= Knowledge of: Basic library services, practices, and terminology Modern office methods, practices and procedures Computer-assisted applications Ability to~ Learn standard library practices and procedures and the Iocatlon of materials In the library Effectively perform · variety of ltbrary clerlcal and technical ~ork wtth speed and accuracy Type at a speed of 20 ~m from clear co~y Understand and carry out oral anclwrltten directions Gtve assistance to and deal courteously ~lth ltbrary patrons Learn to use the automated circulation system, microcomputers, end other automated versions of 11brary services Work Irregular hours Speak and write clearly Establish and maintain cooperative relatlonshtps with those contacted In the course of work EXPERIENCE: One year general clerical experience Involving public contact, preferably tn a library setting. EDUCATION: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. LICENSE: Possession of the appropriate, valid Operator's License issued by the State of California. PHYSICAL STANDARDS: Positions in this class may require light phystca] work with frequent standing and walktng, stooping and reaching, lifting/carrying materials wetghlng up to 25-35 lbs, and pushing fully loaded book trucks. Nanual dexterity ts required to type, use computer terminal keyboard, file, sort, process materials, and so on.
