HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 71-1986 RESOLUTION NO. 71-86 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION COMMENDING SYLVESTER W. DUPLESSIS WHEREAS, SYLVESTER W. DUPLESSIS, after faithfully serving the City for over six (6) years, is retiring on May 2, 1986; and WHEREAS, Sylvester was employed by the City on September 3, 1979 as a Superintendent of Parks and Landscape, being in charge of the enforcement of landscaping regulation, the administration of Parks Maintenance and Common Greens Maintenance Division, and a liaison to the Beautification Sub-Committee, and Parks & Recreation Commission; and WHEREAS, he gained his knowledge in landscaping by earning a B.A. from the College of San Mateo in Ornamental Horticulture and is a California State Licensed Landscape Contractor (C27); and WHEREAS, the landscape standards in this City have improved dramatically as a result of Sylvester's having demonstrated superior knowledge in horticul- ture and park maintenance practices, providing input in all phases from planning and design and being involved in Community Gardens and the City Street Tree Plant- ing Program; and WHEREAS, during his tenure, Sylvester has served on the Design Review Board; California Parks and Recreation Society, District IV and the Maintenance Superin- tendents Association, San Francisco Bay Area Chapter; and WHEREAS, Sylvester is active in the community, serving as President of the Hill Top Gardeners of South San Francisco and President of Stonegate No. 1 Homeowners' Association; and WHEREAS, his accomplishments were recognized when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in San Mateo County for Park Administration/Recreation Community Service; and WHEREAS, Sylvester is a member of the Ethnic Minority Association of Calif- ornia, and has received an Outstanding Service Award from the San Mateo County Office of Education Regional Occupation Program; and WHEREAS, Sylvester enjoys extensive upperland game bird hunting, and a little golfing and skiing; and WHEREAS, his dreams for retirement are to enjog his wife and family with a little travel, continue in community involvement and possibly operate a land- scape maintenance service; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that it does hereby express appreciation to SYLVESTER W. DUPLESSIS for his dedicated services to the City of South San Francisco and does order this Resolution incorporated in the official records of the City as this Council's expression of appreciation and its wishes for his long and happy retirement. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 9th day of April , 1986 , by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Mark N.
