CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION APPOINTING cITY MANAGER,
C. WALTER BIRKELO AS INTERIM CITY TREASURER
WHEREAS, on November 5, 1985 at the regular Municipal Election, John Bonalanza
was elected City Treasurer; and
WHEREAS, John Bonalanza was sworn in as the City Treasurer on November 22, 1985
and passed away on the morning of November 24, 1985; and
WHEREAS, the position of Treasurer of the City of South San Francisco is now
vacant as a result of Mr. Bonalanza's passing; and
WHEREAS, Government Code Section 36512 mequires the City Council, within thirty
days from the commencement of a vacancy in an elected office to either fill the
vacancy by appointment or call a special election to fill said vacancy; and
WHEREAS, the City Council intends to takie the action required by Government
Code Section 36512 on or before December 23,! 1985; and
WHEREAS, it is now necessary to provide ifor an Interim City Treasurer to assure
the orderly and timely handling of the City's finances pending the appointment
or election of a City Treasurer.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that:
1. City Manager, C. Walter Birkelo, is hereby appointed as Interim City
Treasurer and is authorized and directed to fulfill the duties and obligations of
the Office of City Treasurer during the period beginning with his swearing in
and ending on the date that a City Treasureriis either appointed or elected as
provided for in Government Code Section 36512.
2. Before entering upon the duties of ~he Office of Interim City Treasurer,
City Manager Birkelo shall execute a bond tO the City in the penal sum of $750,000,
which bond shall conform to the provisions Of the Government Code relating to
bonds of public officers.
3. Upon approval of the foregoing bond!by the City Attorney, the City Clerk
shall swear in City Manager Birkelo as Interim City Treasurer.
4. As soon as practicable after the execution of the aforementioned bond,
the City Clerk shall forward said bond to rue City Council for approval, after
which the bond shall be maintained on file by the City Clerk. The provisions of
this paragraph shall not affect the date on Which City Manager Birkelo is author-
ized to enter upon the duties of office as Interim City Treasurer.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and
adopted by the City Council of the City of SOuth San Francisco at a regular
meeting held on the 27th day of November , 1985 , by the following
vote:
