CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING
RAYMOND EDWARD NUNES
WHEREAS, Raymond Edward Nunes, after faithfully and effectively serving South
San Francisco and its Fire Department for twenty-eight (28) years is retiring on
July $, 1955 as a Fire Engineer; and
WHEREAS, Ray served his country in the United States Navy with Admiral Bull
Halsey's boat pool in Guam during World War II; and
WHEREAS, Ray performed his duties at every South San Francisco Fire Station,
answering all of this City's major alarm fires since his initial employment as
Firefighter on October 1, 1957; and
WHEREAS, he has unselfishly contributed his time to the youth of the South
San Francisco by coaching the Fire Department PAL baseball team, and co-coaching
the basketball team, and has on many occasions contributed his personal time and
skills on projects to benefit the South San Francisco Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, Ray Nunes, an outstanding Firefighter and Fire Engineer, in his
always congenial, cooperative and willing manner, passed on his experience and
knowledge to the younger and less experienced Firefighters of the City; and
WHEREAS, his interest in his work led him to pursue further education in
various Fire Department related courses; and
WHEREAS, he is active in the Widows and Orphans Association, and a Charter
Member of International Association of Firefighters, Local 1507; and
WHEREAS, Ray's retirement dreams are to spend a happy, healthy life with his
lovely wife Marian, two children and two grandchildren, enjoying baseball games
and traveling; and
WHEREAS, he has helped protest the City of South San Francisco for twenty-
eight (25) years, and his dedication to justice, fairness and high morals are in
the highest tradition of the Fire Department;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that it does hereby express appreciation to Raymond Edward Nunes for
his dedicated services to the City of South San Francisco and does order this
Resolution incorporated in the official records of the City as this Council's
expression of appreciation and its wishes for his long and happy retirement.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced
and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a
regular meeting held on the 26th day of June , 198 5 · by
the following vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Mark N. Addiego, Emanuele N. Damonte,
Gus Nicolopulos; and Roberta Cerri Teglia
