CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE $12,249
IN DONATIONS AND GRANT FUNDING TO SUPPORT THE
LIBRARY'S CHILDREN'S SERVICES AND AMENDING THE
LIBRARY DEPARTMENT'S 2010 -2011 OPERATING
BUDGET.
WHEREAS, the Friends of the Library awarded a grant to the City in the amount of $750
to support the Summer Reading Club; and
WHEREAS, the South San Francisco Police Athletic League awarded a grant to the City
in the amount of $500 to support the Summer Reading Club; and
WHEREAS, the Philanthropic Ventures Foundation awarded a grant to the City in the
amount of $449 to support the Summer Reading Club; and
WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of South San Francisco awarded a grant to the City in the
amount of $300 to support the Summer Reading Club; and
WHEREAS, the South San Francisco Host Lions Club awarded a grant to the City in the
amount of $250 to support the Summer Reading Club; and
WHEREAS, the annual Summer Reading Club program was established to encourage
children and teens to read during the school break; and
WHEREAS, the Amgen Foundation awarded a grant to the City in the amount of $5,000
to support the Summer Reading Club and the Reader Leader program; and
WHEREAS, the Reader Leader program provides tutoring for elementary school by
teens; and
WHEREAS, the Edwards Family Fund, an advised fund of Silicon Valley Community
Foundation awarded a grant to the City in the amount of $5,000 to purchase books for the
children's collection; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of the grant funding in the amount of $750
from the Friends of the Library, $500 from the South San Francisco Police Athletic League,
$449 from Philanthropic Ventures Foundation, $300 from the Kiwanis Club of South San
Francisco, $250 from the South San Francisco Host Lions Club, $5,000 from Amgen, and $5,000
from the Edwards Family Fund to support Children's Services in the Library; and
WHEREAS, the foregoing grant funds will be used to amend this year's operating budget
of the Library Department.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that the City Council hereby accepts $750 from the Friends of the Library, $500 from
the South San Francisco Police Athletic League, $449 from Philanthropic Ventures Foundation,
$300 from the Kiwanis Club of South San Francisco, $250 from the South San Francisco Host
Lions Club, $5,000 from Amgen , and $5,000 from the Edwards Family Fund and amends the
Library Department's 2010 -2011 Operating Budget in order to reflect an increase of $12,249.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by
the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 25 day of
May 2011 by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Mark Addiego, Pedro Gonzalez, and Karyl Matsumoto,
Vice Mayor Richard A. Garbarino and Mayor Kevin Mullin
