CITY COUNCILi CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING JACK EHLE, JR.
WHEREAS, Jack Ehle, after faithfully and effectively serving the City and its
Fire Department for thirty-three years, is retiring on August 22, 1985 as
Battalion Chief, A Shift; and
WHEREAS, Jack served his country for four (4) years as a Hospital Corpsman in
the United States Navy, spending nine (9) months of active duty on a destroyer off
the coast of Korea during the Korean conflict; and
WHEREAS, his Fire service career started in June, 1947 with the San Mateo
County Fire Warden's Office; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure with the South San Francisco Fire Department,
he served under six (6) different Fire Chiefs, and has held nearly every posi-
tion in the Department, including Acting Fire Chief and Acting Assistant Fire
Chief; and
WHEREAS, Jack organized and coordinated the Fire Department clean-up crews
during the 1971-72 floods and commanded the Fire fighting forces on many major
incidents; and
WHEREAS, he conducted the Fire Department Feasibility Study, developed and
purchased equipment for the implementation of the first Paramedic Unit in San
Mateo County, which served as a model for the present County Paramedic Service,
and was instrumental in the formation and training of the first Arson Unit in
the South San Francisco Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, he is a graduate of the South San Francisco Junior/Senior High
School, havingattended the College of San Mateo in their Fire Science Program,
and also attended State Fire Service classes, as well as many South San Francisco
Fire Department courses; and
WHEREAS, Jack was Secretary/Treasurer of the Widows and Orphans Association,
and Chairman of Steering Committee of Northern California Rescue and Paramedic
Association, is a Charter member of Fire Department Union Local 1507 and is noted
for his personal concern for his men and their families; and
WHEREAS, he contributed his time to the gouth of the City by serving as
Chairman for the Cub Scouts, and is also a past member of the South San Francisco
Rod and Gun Club; and
WHEREAS, Jack Ehle shares his dream of retirement with his lovely wife
Eleanor and son Steven, and plans to catch up on his favorite hobbies of fishing,
gardening and traveling; and
WHEREAS, he has helped protect the City of South San Francisco for more than
thirty-three years of service, and his dedication to justice, fairness and high
morals are in the highest tradition of the Fire Department;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that it does hereby express appreciation to Jack Ehle, Jr. for his
dedicated services to the City of South San Francisco and does order this Reso-
lution incorporated in the official records of the Cit9 as this Council's
expression of appreciation and its wishes for his long and happy retirement.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced
and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a
regular meeting held on the 14th day of August , 19 85 ,
by the following vote:
