CITY COUNCIL, CITY DF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION ENDORSING SELECTION OF EDGEWOOD
HILLS AS THE SITE FOR THE LOCATION OF A STATE
COLLEGE AND URGING ACTION ON ITS ACQUISITION
BY THE STATE COLLEGE BOARD
WHEREAS, after exhaustive study and review, the State
College Board has selected property in the vicinity of
Edgewood Road and Canada Road as the site for a state col-
lege, and
WMEREAS, ~he necessity of providing for additional educ-
ational facilities in southern San Mateo County is becoming
more and more apparent as the area's population has multi-
plied, and
WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City is ideally located
equidistant between San Francisco State College, serving
the City and County of San Francisco, and San Jose State
College, serving the Santa Clara County valley, and is also
the hub of the tremendous growth being experienced by San
Marco and northern Santa Clara Counties, and
WHEREAS, the Edgewood Mills site is ideally located
adjacent to the soon to be completed Junipero Serra freeway,
is readily accessible from both sides of the San Marco
Peninsula and provides the most centrally located site with-
out sacrificing any of the site area r~quirements;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of South San Francisco as follows:
1. That this Council formally approves of the estab-
lishment of a State College on the Edgewood Hills site.
2. That this Council hereby urges the State College
Board to initiate acquisition proceedings in order that
the Edgewood Hills site is preserved for college purposes.
