BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION: Since January 2002, the Project for Public Spaces (PPS) Consultant Team has been facilitating a series of "place making" and "technical" workshops with merchants, residents and City staff to develop a concept plan for Downtown South San Francisco and the Caltrain Station area. The concept plan would help the City encourage pedestrian access from Downtown to the Caltrain Station, improve traffic circulation, create new public spaces for residents and merchants, and identify new development opportunities. The Consultant Team from the Project for Public Spaces will present their final Concept Plan to the City Council, which will summarize potential actions the City may implement that will improve "public spaces" in Downtown South San Francisco and the Caltrain Station area. CONCLUSION: The Consultant Team anticipates spending approximately 15 minutes on the PowerPoint presentation. Following the presentation, the Consultant Team will facilitate questions and answers from the City Council. Staff recommends that the City Council conduct a study session on the Project for Public Spaces recommendations for Downtown South San Francisco and the Caltrain Station area and provide comments as appropriate.
