Dolores Piper at September 13, 2021 at 8:22pm PDT I believe that the candidate should be well versed in 21st Century Policing Implementation Guide https://cops.usdoj.gov. Cops stands for community oriented policing. The candidate should agree to implement "8 can't wait" in its entirety. The candidate should be well versed in the lethality of tasers - should be required to watch "Killing Them Safely". The candidate should have a plan to create accountability and transparency that welcomes community input and complaints, and there should be reports on the outcome of complaint resolutions to the community on an ongoing basis. The candidate should be willing to implement restorative justice as an alternative. The candidate should be versed, or become versed, in the Dept of Justice's Collaborative Reform Initiative (272 recommendations) for the SF Police Department as an excellent guide for SSFPD though a much smaller dept. Selecting a candidate from within the SSFPD may continue policies that should be changed. Community should be aware of how frequently officers take training in anti-bias and de-escalation practices and what that training consists of.
