HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 1098-1991ORDINANCE NO. 1098-91 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO TO ADD SECTION 20.76.155 TO TITLE 20 OF ~{E SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO MUNICIPAL CODE REGARDING FLAG POLE STANDARDS THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO WHEREAS, at a regular meeting of the planning commission held on January 17, 1991, a public hearing was held and the planning commission recommended to the city council that section 20.76.155 be added as a text amendment to Title 20 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of South San Francisco does ordain as follows: S~CTION 1. SECTION 20 . 76 . 155 ADDED. Section 20.76.155 is hereby added to Title 20 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code to read as follows: "20.76.155 Flag pole standards Flag pole may be approved with a type "A" sign permit subject to the following restrictions: (a) Location. Flag poles shall not be located within any required yard setbacks. (b) Height. Flag pole heights shall be limited to thirty feet. Flag poles located on the roofs of buildings shall be no taller than thirty feet, as measured from the point of contact with the roof, and in no case shall exceed the primary height restrictions for the zone in which the building is located. (c) Size. Corporate flags shall be no larger than thirty-five square feet unless a type "C" sign permit is approved by the planning commission. The size of any flags, other than state and national flags, shall be considered signage for the purposes of determining total signage allowed for a site. (d) Flag types. A flag containing only the company name and/or logo may be approved with a type "A" sign permit only when flown in conjunction with national or state flags. Any type of flag other than a corporate flag, with the exception of state and national flags, shall require a type "C" sign permit. The use of state and national flags shall not require any sign permit but the flag poles shall be subject to the location and height limitations as provided in this section. (e) Number of flags. No more than one corporate flag shall be permitted on each parcel unless a type "C" sign permit is approved by the planning commission." SECTION 2. SEVERABILITY In the event any section or portion of this ordinance shall be determined invalid or unconstitutional, such section or portion shall be deemed severable and all other sections or portions hereof shall remain in full force and effect. SECTION 3. PUBLICATION AND EFFECTIVE DATE This ordinance shall be published once, with the names of those City Councilmembers voting for or against it, in the Enterprise Journal, a newspaper of general circulation in the City of South San Francisco, as required by law, and shall become effective thirty (30) days from and after its adoption. Adopted as an Ordinance of the City of South San Francisco at a reqular meeting of the City Council of the City of South San Francisco, held the 27th day of March , 1991, by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Richard A.
